REACHING OUT YOUNG MINDS (ROYM)

Reaching Out Young Minds

There has been a huge disparity between boys’ and girls’ education in Samburu County. According to KDHS 2014, research estimates illiteracy among women to be as high as 83%. Yet education is supposed to enable the development of prosperity in the region. With few girls managing to transition from secondary school to tertiary levels of education, development will continue to be a pipe dream among the pastoralist communities in Samburu County. To change the status quo, cultural factors hindering girls’ education need to be addressed at community and school level. Our success vision is to carry out mentorship programs targeting girls in primary and secondary schools to guide and inspire them to see their potential beyond cultural challenges hindering them from pursuing education. We offer Guidance and counseling Career mentorship sessions Drug and substance abuse
