TAASIA PODCAST
TAASIA PODCAST
To promote SDG 16, "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions", the Taasia podcast serves as a community platform where discussions relevant to our way of living are held. The online platform also showcases and amplifies the efforts of young change-makers in the community. Host young people in the space of social transformation to showcase their work and efforts towards social transformation. Our success vision is to take civic education to a higher level by introducing podcasting platforms to young people. This unlocks their ability to not only rely on traditional media as a tool of disseminating and receiving information, given that the majority of rural villages are not served by traditional media such as television and newspapers.
REACHING OUT YOUNG MINDS (ROYM)
Reaching Out Young Minds
There has been a huge disparity between boys’ and girls’ education in Samburu County. According to KDHS 2014, research estimates illiteracy among women to be as high as 83%. Yet education is supposed to enable the development of prosperity in the region. With few girls managing to transition from secondary school to tertiary levels of education, development will continue to be a pipe dream among the pastoralist communities in Samburu County. To change the status quo, cultural factors hindering girls’ education need to be addressed at community and school level. Our success vision is to carry out mentorship programs targeting girls in primary and secondary schools to guide and inspire them to see their potential beyond cultural challenges hindering them from pursuing education. We offer Guidance and counseling Career mentorship sessions Drug and substance abuse
YOUTH ACTIVIST LEADERSHIP COUNCIL (YALC)
Youth Dialogue Session
Youth Training Session
YOUTH ACTIVIST LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
To promote SDG 16 "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions." under the Youth Activist Leadership Council, we recruit and train young people to join our team of volunteers at the village level to take part in peace-building. Samburu County experiences ethnic conflict between various pastoralist communities living in the area. The conflict is as a result of scarce resources such as water, pastures, and grazing land. Climate change has made livestock rearing difficult due to long drought spells that cause the deaths of livestock and human beings. Due to the economic difficulties stemming from the death of livestock and pressure from cultural practices that attach importance to the use of livestock to perform important rituals such as marriages, young people engage in illegal theft of livestock. The conflict has destabilized the region economically, resulting in underdevelopment in all sectors. Our best hope in this situation is to train a new generation of chain breakers. From our training, these young people gain skills and knowledge in advocacy, negation, and peacebuilding. They later use the skills at the village level as village peace mentors who train many other youths to take an active role in peacebuilding. Objective Create awareness of peacebuilding in the community. Facilitate community information policies where sensitive information is shared with the community rangers and national police to counter attackers. Initiating and encouraging open discussion on conflict resolution through community dialogue forums
X-SERIES: MALAYSIA AND KENYA
Zoom Class on Session
X-Series: Malaysia X Kenya
X-Series: Malaysia X Kenya International exchange project was initiated by Shu Yen Seah from Malaysia and Joseph Leajore from Kenya to bring teenage girls from both countries together to develop knowledge of cultural diversity, and build friendships and communication skills. This is an educational program that enhances leadership and sustainable development goals awareness among girls as teenagers. The main objective is to nurture leadership and self-awareness for young girls to enhance their ability to lead. The X-Series: Malaysia x Kenya seeks to bridge cultural barriers between girls from rural communities in Samburu County by giving them a platform to exchange ideas. Through the program, girls learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ways to apply them in their respective communities.
